Pentax powers up with K100D Super camera

pentax-k100d-super.jpg

Pentax has certainly outdone itself with the K100D Super digital SLR camera. If the name sounds familiar, you would realize that the K100D Super is a follow up to last year’s K100D model, and this time it boasts Pentax’s own Dust Removal system in addition to support for high-end SDM lenses. Those are about the only changes, while everything else remains the same including the Shake Reduction system, 11-point autofocus system, 16-segment metering system, and the 2.5″ 210k pixel LCD. The K100D Super is tipped to retail for approximately $600 which comes with an AF200G lens. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

logitech_quickcam_pro9000.jpg

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a webcam that’s exciting, but the Quickcam Pro 9000 makes me want to revisit that category of devices. Obviously image quality is key for a imaging device so Logitech went to Carl Zeiss, a name that you might have heard before, as their optics are used by Nokia in their N73 or Sony on many of their consumer cameras.

With a good lens, light comes in nicely but you also need a good sensor to actually capture that light correctly. Logitech included a 2Megapixel light sensor, which is quite better than most webcams. However, to get the best sharpness possible, Logitech has included an auto-focus (yes, just like the iSight, although a bit late). The auto-focus is better than Apple’s, according to Logitech. We haven’t done a side-by-side with our iSight, but we can say that the overall image quality is better.

Of course, Logitech has continually improved their software offering and the accompanying webcam utility allows user to apply image filtering effects in real-time. Our favorite one is the “old grainy film” effect that turns your webcast into a classic movie.

It ships in July for $99.99. Available at www.logitech.com

HP Photosmart R937 digital camera

hp-photosmartr937.jpg

HP has just rolled out the spanking new Photosmart R937 digital camera, boasting a generous 3.6″ touchscreen display while capturing images in 8 megapixel resolution. The R937 truly takes a step up from regular digital cameras, enabling users to tag images with Vista-compatible tags in order to simplify the search process on a computer. That’s certainly handy considering how we tend to copy our photos over to the computer without worrying about how to archive it properly. Other features include automatic red-eye fix, pet-eye fix, and slimming functions, anti-shake technology, 3x optical zoom, 8x digital zoom, and a host of on-board editing options in addition to 32MB of internal memory. The HP R937 will be released this August for $299.99 a pop.
