Maxian M850 is super slim
Cellphones aren’t the only devices that are taking the slim route, with the Maxian M850 portable media player adopting the same stance. Measuring a mere 17mm slim, the M850 comes with a 4.3″ WQVGA LCD touchscreen display complete with 9 equalizers, TV recording capability, and an alarm clock. What makes the M850 stand out is its Text-to-Speech functionality that gives it handsfree functionality and a playback speed control to watch action sequences in slow motion. The 30GB M850 will retail for around $400 each.
Nokia unveils 6086 handset
Nokia has just launched the 6086 clamshell cellphone as part of the nationwide T-Mobile HotSpot @Home service. Since the Nokia 6086 boasts WiFi capability, it will be able to hook up to a home WiFi connection or thousands of T-Mobile HotSpots throughout the country for seamless connectivity no matter where you go. Features of the Nokia 6086 includes an integrated VGA camera (meh) with video recording capability, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot, and an integrated MP3 player. Pricing details are currently unavailable, but I won’t find any practical use for surfing with the 6086 unless I want to check on the latest groundbreaking news snippets or Lotto results.
Seesaw cellphone concept
Karsten Willmann looks to have covered all bases with this concept design of a cellphone, from the high contrast OLED display to the unbelievably thin form factor. In addition, you get a simple numeric keypad that seems pretty functional to boot. One thing I don’t get though is the bulge protruding from its back in the centre that seems to disrupt the harmony of the design, but that hump is exactly the thing that gives it its name while making the screen legible when the Seesaw phone is resting on its back. A camera and flashlight round off the list of features.
Huawei U550 does 3G
Huawei’s U550 clamshell cellphone was recently paraded at CommunicAsia 2007, and this handset certainly does hold its own against other more established brands in terms of features. In addition to HSDPA connectivity that gives you speedy Internet access on-the-go, you also get touch sensitive buttons ala Chocolate, letting you groove to your favorite digital music tracks without ever flipping the U550 open. No word on pricing or availability at this point in time though, although it probably won’t carry a premium price since it has to take the lower price route in order to increase its market presence first.
