Scroll cellphone goes back in time

scroll-phone.jpg

The Scroll cellphone concept from Yun Liang is pretty interesting, taking inspiration from traditional Chinese paintings that must be unfurled before viewing. Whenever you need to access data within the phone, you will need to roll out the scroll, but numeric key functions can be performed otherwise. The advent of flexible displays are definitely a good sign, since it signifies the fact that devices such as the Scroll cellphone can be a reality sometime in the near future, although the idea might not sound too practical. I mean, nothing beats taking a solid phone in my hand and pressing the “Answer” button, right? I see no point reinventing the wheel here.

Zikom Z-510 lacks inspiration

zikom-z510.jpg

The folks who designed the Zikon Z-510 handset must surely be a poorly paid bunch, considering how their design cues followed those of Motorola’s handsets closely. What you get with this clamshell cellphone include a paltry 1.3 megapixel camera, a microSD memory card slot (supports up to 1GB cards only), MP3 and AVI playback, and a tiny OLED display up in front. No idea on how much it costs nor which region will the Z-510 be released, but one thing’s for sure – it won’t be doing gangbusters anytime soon.

LG KU580 does Google

lg-ku580.jpg

This Chocolatey handset from LG, better known as the LG KU580, is a cellphone that boasts 3G connectivity via UMTS to keep you connected at all times. What makes this handset special from the other 3G phones would be built-in support for a bunch of Google applications including GMail, Google Maps, and Google Search. Other rudimentary features include a front VGA camera for video calls, a 2 megapixel camera with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens behind, an integrated FM tuner, MP3 playback, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion and data storage options. There is no word on pricing or availability, but it ought to hit store shelves sometime before the year is over. I don’t know about you, but checking out Google stuff from such a tiny screen isn’t my cup of tea.

Nokia 7900 leaked

nokia-7900.jpg

Looks like there are leaked images of the Nokia 7900 floating around, and what impresses you the most would be the interesting criss-cross design in front and at the back. Measuring a mere 14mm thick, the 7900 will be equipped with Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, an integrated FM radio, email support, integrated audio and video players, 1GB of internal memory, and a very capable display that shows up to 16 million colors in 320 x 240 resolution, all packed into a body that measures 106mm x 44mm x 14mm. I personally think this is a hoax, as the design cues definitely do not lean toward the business-class image that is associated with such a handset, while 14mm sounds too slim for a Nokia.
